Things to know

Everything you need to know before booking in your vehicle for repair

At Southern Lakes Panelbeating we know that you will have a lot of questions about your repair. We’ve tried to answer most of the frequently asked questions here. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please give us a call … we are happy to help.

  • If you have additional damage, stone-chips, scratches or wear & tear on your vehicle that you would like addressed while it is under repair, please let us know before repairs are started. Insurers will not cover the cost of repairing any unrelated damage, scratches or stone-chips etc, but in most cases it is more economical to have additional work completed in conjunction with Insurance repairs. We will happily provide you with a detailed estimate for unrelated damage, so please just ask.

  • It is your choice to select a repairer and you may need to be firm with your insurer regarding that choice. Your insurer may encourage or pressure you to use a preferred repairer in another town at your inconvenience and cost.

We undertake and guarantee repairs for all insurers, and we choose to remain largely unaffiliated with insurers so we can deliver the quality repair we think you should have. This means we aren’t forced to shop in the bargain bin for materials and parts for your precious investment.

  • In many cases you will be required to pay an excess for insurance repairs. Generally, we collect this on the Insurers behalf prior to repair completion or upon vehicle pick-up.

  • Loan cars are available while your vehicle is under repair in our workshop. There is a small administration fee. These cars can often be in high demand, so please let us know at the time of your repair booking if you require one.

  • All of our repairs are backed and guaranteed by the New Zealand Collision Repair Association (CRA), of which we are a member.

To achieve and maintain CRA membership the threshold for compliance, equipment and training is very high, so you can rest assured of a quality repair no matter who you are insured with.

  • We use the latest computerised technology, blending techniques and top shelf materials and paints to ensure we deliver an invisible repair. Occasionally there can be factors that lead to slight colour variations. There are ways to mitigate these issues, so please talk to the team if you have any concerns.

  • We use new OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts where possible. Some insurers will direct us to use recycled (used) parts.

Please let us know if you have a preference.

  • Although each repair is different, typically, most small to medium repairs take 3-4 days. Larger or structural repairs may take up to 2 weeks.

The lead time to begin repairs is dictated by current workloads and parts availability.
